Uterine Fibroids – The Complications
In a vast majority of all cases, uterine fibroids do not cause any major threat at all. Yes sure enough, these growths can cause a lot of symptoms and many of them can lead to discomfort too such as pain in the abdomen, urinary problems, excessive or erratic bleeding from the vagina, and even problems in sexual intercourse. But none of these conditions are frankly life threatening, and they do not cause any major problem. That is however no reason to sit back and relax. The fact is, in some cases at least, a few women are not that lucky. Uterine fibroids have been known to cause complications in a few instances and the consequences can be grave.
This is why it is always advisable that you seek treatment as early as possible if you have these growths within the uterus. After all, why take the chance when uterine fibroids are known to cause complications. Many women feel really scared when they find out that the yet to be born child must share space with the fibroid. They have every reason to feel scared because dangers can indeed happen.
Complications of Uterine Fibroids
One complication that is quite common really is anemia. This happens because of the heavy loss of blood, which is a usual symptom of fibroids. Some other complications include meigs’ syndrome, birth hypoxia, perinatal morbidity, uterine enlargement, dystocia, menorrhagia and foetal malposition.
The complications of uterine fibroids depend a great deal on the size of these growths, the number of them present (some women have several tumors in a cluster and others have just one), and also their location. Those women who have several fibroids face a greater risk of complications.
Uterine Fibroids and Pregnancy
This is always a concern with most women because the fibroids occur in the uterus and a woman has these growths in the child beating years. Thankfully, fibroids do not usually come in the way of a successful pregnancy. Not always at least. Some women are however not this lucky. Sometimes, these tumor like growths do indeed cause problems to hinder pregnancy and they have even been known to cause miscarriage.
Fibroids can sometimes block the passage of the sperm into the fallopian tubes. And of course if there is no fertilization because the sperm cannot reach, there cannot be any pregnancy. Because of this, infertility is often a scare for many women in the child bearing age who have the fibroids within the uterus. Submucosal fibroid, which is one type of fibroid, can also prevent the implantation and even the growth of the embryo.
Fibroids and Miscarriage
According to research that has been carried out, those who are pregnant and with fibroids in the uterus have a greater risk of premature labor pain and delivery and even a greater risk of miscarriage. In some cases, the placenta can even get separated from the wall of the uterus. Though a few researches carried out reveal these findings, but not all of them show similar results. So more research is probably needed in this area, but the fact is, the risk still remains.
So if you are planning to become a mother, it is best that you get yourself checked for fibroids. And if the doc tells you that you have these growths, it is always better to first solve the issue before you plan your pregnancy. Uterine fibroids can be best treated with holistic remedies – these remedies treat the root causes and eradicated all of them. So once the real causes are gone (and not just the symptoms), the fibroids never come back again. And so you can have a safe and successful pregnancy.
